Faculty employs in general 120 members of academic staff.

The required study courses are taught at the various faculties and institutes of the University of Latvia as well as at the Faculty of Medicine’s departments and hospital clinics:

  • Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital
  • The 1st Hospital of Riga
  • Riga East University Hospital
  • Latvian Maritime Medicine Centre
  • Children Clinical University Hospital
  • Infectology Center of Latvia
  • Hospital of Traumatology and Orthopaedics
  • Riga Maternity Hospital
  • Family doctors practices

The programme for foreign students is conducted in English, but students have to learn Latvian before the start of clinical subjects in the 3rd year of studies in order to have a successful contact with patients. After the completion of the programme, students receive a Medical Doctor Degree.

The Medical Doctor Degree allows entering a residency and/or begin PhD studies.

The students’ workload is measured in credits. 60 ECTS credits represent one year of full-time studies. The grading scale is from 1 (very poor) to 10 (with distinction).

The programme is regularly re-accredited every 6 years.  Accreditation in conformity with national legal statutes is done by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia.
